Overview

Aelios is the name given to the plane and primary continent that humanity resides on in the universe. It is the named used by humanity to refer to the world upon which its members reside and is a land with a storied past and many aspects shrouded in mystery or danger. The world is dominated by humans in their various form as the dominant sentient race although following the acquisition of magic and the subsequent experimentation what form humanity takes is as varied as the landscapes they live on. Many parts of Aelios see its inhabitants living in relative safety although very few people live free of toil and hardship and some must contend with a hostile land or hostile creatures in unexplored places.
To live in Aelios in the current day is to live in a changing political, cultural, and magical landscape where a man might be born into poverty, rise through skill or magic, and be felled by the same in a span of years or decades. The world is not as tumultuous as it was in ages past and this has led to the establishment of major political powers that draw vast borders across lands still containing the smoldering battlefields of recent conquest, the ancient ruins of empires long passed, or the still chaotic remnants of the Starfall that brought magic to humanity.

Cosmology

Aelios, as understood by the wisest of humanity, is a point of structure and stability in the rolling chaos of uncreation. The mortal coil lies nestled between the heavens above and the hells below, partially protected by both from the void without but subject to the whims of the ageless denizens of both realms.
